KW'AS LAKE HOUSE, HAGUE LAKE, CORTES ISLAND
Spectacular Lakefront Year-Round Vacation Home
NOW BOOKING: Long Weekends, Spring, Easter, Summer 2012

Situated on 10 acres of beautiful forest, mossy bluffs and 350 feet of pristine lakefront, this is a lovely, comfortable home to celebrate Thanksgiving, Xmas or Easter and for an idyllic summer vacation. Ideal for a sabbatical or to finish writing that book. Bring the family for a long weekend or enjoy a quiet nature retreat or romantic getaway.

Owner built by artist Pierre de Trey, the inside of this unique post and beam wood house was described by one guest as “ like living inside a sculpture”. It was built with local wood, much of which was milled from fallen trees on the property, and many doors, stained glass windows, maple wood floors and fixtures were saved and lovingly refinished from turn of the century Victoria homes.

From this quiet, secluded location there are spectacular views south over Hague Lake and Turtle Island. The property is adjacent to Kw’as Park which offers hours of hiking on well maintained trails through spruce groves, old growth fir and cedar, and high open bluffs. The name Kw’as comes from the aboriginal name for Hague Lake, Kw’as Oyeta, which means warm water. The water is extremely warm for summer swimming and the property has a small, private sandy beach. The lake is home to an ancient strain of coastal cutthroat trout, landlocked perhaps 10,000 years ago, which offers good fly fishing and delicious eating. The lake is perfect for canoeing, kayaking and wind surfing, but no power boats are allowed.

The house comfortably accommodates 6 (maximum 8). There are 4 bedrooms, 2 with queen beds and one with bunk beds. There is a TV room with a hideabed, and a studio/bedroom with a double futon bed and space for yoga & relaxation. You will find a piano, telephone, TV, VCR/DVD and stereo system. High speed wireless internet is available. The library is well stocked with interesting books, audio CDs and games. Children over 5 and babies are welcome but the house may not be suitable for younger children or toddlers. Please discuss with owner. Pets are not allowed. This is a non smoking house. Guests are welcome to harvest organic produce from the garden.

The village of Mansons Landing is a 5 minute drive. Here you will find stores, bank, post office, restaurants, museum, community hall, skate board park and medical clinic. A 3 minute drive to Mansons Landing Provincial Park brings you to a spit which divides a beautiful sandy ocean beach and a unique salt water tidal lagoon, home to a myriad species of marine life, where you can beachcomb or harvest clams and oysters. Swimming and snorkelling are popular here. After dark if you dip your hand in the water and create ripples you can experience the spectacular luminescence caused by minute marine organisms. There is a public dock used by boaters and fishermen. Click here for more information about Cortes Island.
